Dorothea Quackenbush Obituary

Quackenbush, Dorothea GREENVILLE, N.Y. Dorothea V. "Dotty" Quackenbush, 92 years, of Greenville, passed away on October 22, 2008 in Our Lady of Mercy Life Care Center in Guilderland, N.Y. She was born in Albany, N.Y. on May 4, 1916, daughter of the late William and Catherine (Collins) McTague. After graduating from St. Joseph High School in Albany, Dotty worked as a bookkeeper for McKesson & Robbins Drug Co., where she met her loving husband, Bill. After marriage she and Bill moved to Plattsburgh, N.Y. where they started their large family. They moved to Greenville in 1949 with their first five children and co-founded the Greenville Pharmacy. Bill ran the drug store, while Dot worked at home. Their family soon grew to ten children. After Bill died in 1979, Dot became a permanent member of the Greenville Pharmacy staff until the family business was sold in 2000. She was a faithful parishioner of Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church, where she served as a catechist and as a member of the Rosary Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters of America. In the closing years of her life, she suffered from a variety of physical ailments. Throughout her many joys and challenges she remained faithful to the good Lord Jesus, whom she strove to serve devotedly her entire life. Besides her husband, William Quackenbush, Jr.; she was pre-deceased by two sons, Edward and Joseph Quackenbush; her siblings, John (Eileen), Peggy Bushek (Emil), Sally Slattery (Bob), William (Kate), Joseph (Julia), Mary Theresa Hawkins (Phil) and Patricia McTague. Surviving are three daughters, Mary Keyes (Don), Judith Reischer (Thomas) and Bernadette Sharkey (Frank); five sons, William T. III (Kathleen), Mark (LuAnn), Michael P. (Marilyn), Matthew F. and the Rev. Daniel Quackenbush; also 28 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be Saturday, October 25, 10:30 a.m. from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR81, Greenville, N.Y. with a Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church. Aunt Dot was everything you could ask for in an aunt ---and more. The Slatterys loved all our trips to Greenville-the more the merrier ( or crazier). Great times-and many many great memories-to all my cousins and their families-please know that I share your grief and take comfort in the fact that I know she is with our heavenly Father in whom she had great faith Love Carol
