Krupansky, Edith
MELROSE - Edith Krupansky, age 106, was ushered into glory with her Lord and Savior, Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at 1:30 p.m., at her Melrose home with her family and friends by her side. Born on March 15, 1919, in Bristol, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Malwine (Schroeder) and Richard Marpe, who were both born in Germany. She was the beloved wife of Andrew Krupansky for 46 years. Edie was the oldest living resident in the history of Melrose, N.Y. Edie was raised on the Marpe farm in Johnsonville, N.Y. Her early education was at a one-room school house in Johnsonville, before attending elementary school in Valley Falls, N.Y., and then taking the train to Troy High School and graduating in 1937. Edie met Andy at Behr Manning in Troy, N.Y., but it wasn't love at first sight. Edie claims that Andy was annoying and she wanted to marry a rich man! She ultimately fell in love with Andy, and they were married on October 12, 1947. They had one son, John, and moved into their Melrose home on Powers Lane in 1953, and Edie lived there for 72 years. Raised in the Great Depression, Edie was always a hard worker, having had a number of jobs over the years, including bus monitor for the Hoosic Valley Schools, care giver at the Melrose Nursing Home, and secretary at Cluett Peabody & Co. She was also a lover of flowers and gardening, and their property was always blooming with beautiful flowers, trees, and bushes. Her favorite flower was lilacs, and she loved to share her lilac bushes with others. She attended and was active in the Melrose Methodist Church for many of the 72 years she lived in Melrose. Also, Edie attended all 55 of the annual Marpe Family reunions, including the most recent one on July 19, 2025. But of all Edie's defining qualities, she most notably will be remembered for her quick wit, sense of humor, and love of family. Edie wholeheartedly invested in the lives of her husband, son, grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Additionally, she attended a majority of the family's dedications, baptisms, graduations, proms, showers, weddings, sporting events, and special occasions. Her intentionality, kindness, and humble service to others marked her well lived life, as we are reminded in Galatians 5:22-23: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control." Edie is survived by one son, John Krupansky of Paducah, Ky.; one granddaughter, Natalie Krupansky; and one grandson, Evan Krupansky, both of Paducah, Ky. Edie is also survived by two great- grandchildren, Tate and Walter Krupansky; and several generations of nieces and nephews. Additionally, Edie was predeceased by her husband Andrew Krupansky; three brothers, Paul (Elise) Marpe, Walter (Mary) Marpe, and Heinz (Eleanor) Marpe; and two sisters, Ilse (Werner) Siebels and Lucy (Sam) Reeves. While Edie will be deeply missed, her family rejoices in her long and full life, as well as knowing she is in the presence of Jesus Christ and beloved family members who have gone before. Her family is most grateful for the many care givers who made it possible for her to live at home until her death. Memorial services for Edie will be held at Melrose Methodist Church, 20 Church St., Melrose, N.Y., on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 10 a.m., followed by graveside service at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 983 Watervliet Shaker Rd., Albany, N.Y., and then back to the church for a lunch reception. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Melrose Methodist Church, 20 Church St., Melrose, N.Y. 12121. The funeral arrangements are under the direction of the McDonald & Son Funeral Home, 870 2nd Ave., Troy, N.Y.
