Edward Comtois Obituary

Comtois, Edward
COHOES - Edward F. Comtois, 80, of Cohoes, N.Y., passed away, Sunday, June 1, 2025 at Schenectady Center for Rehab and Nursing, following a long illness.
Ed was born in 1944 in Cohoes, N.Y., the eldest son of the late Adelard and Lucille (Miron) Comtois. He is also predeceased by his sister-in-law, Betty Comtois; and his brother-in-law, Skip Brown.
Ed attended Cohoes High School, and at the age of 19, he became a business owner. For 62 years he was the proud owner of Ed Comtois and Son Auto Sales. He provided quality used cars, auto repairs, and body work. He was proudest working everyday next to his children, and wife. Their bond was unbreakable. He considered all his customers family. He took great pride in his trade, and worked hard to make sure his customers left with a quality product. He would often say, "I'm here to make friends, not money." Anyone who knew Ed, knew what an honest, hardworking man he was. In 1966, Ed married the love of his life, Pauline Gauthier, and they settled down to start their family.
When Ed wasn't at work, he enjoyed golfing and bowling. His favorite hobby was boating on Lake George with his family, where he spent many holiday weekends on the islands, taking his grandchildren tubing, and to the ranger station for ice cream. He had a passion for cars and loved being a body man at the shop. In his down time at home, he loved watching the New York Yankees, the New York Giants, and the Golf Channel.
Ed is survived by his wife of 58 years, Pauline Comtois; their two children, Dale Comtois, and Kelly Comtois (Keith Hall); their four grandchildren, Ryan (Vi) Kelly, Lauren (Ryan) Teal, Logan Kelly, and Meagan Hall; a great-grandson, Dillon, with two more great-grandsons on the way; and his siblings, Marie (Henry) Dufresne, Rene Comtois, Phillip (Cheryl) Comtois, and Colette Brown; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A period of visitation will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025, 4 to 8 p.m., at Catricala Funeral Home, 1597 Rte. 9, Clifton Park, N.Y. 12065. Burial will take place privately, at his family's convenience.

I am so sorry to hear of Ed's passing. Ed was truly a great person. We had plenty of talks about the Yankees. He sold both my daughters their first cars and wanted to make sure they were safe trustworthy cars for them. I had the priviledge of caring for ED for some time and really got to know him and enjoyed our interactions. R.I.P Ed

It's been years since I heard my father discuss Ed's friendhsip and business relationship--initially right across Columbia Street-- to later on the Island in Cohoes. My father trusted Ed's knowledge and craftsmanship and valued his services among the auto businesses in Cohoes. From our family (H.E. Hull & Sons, Inc) to the Comtois family, I offer our sincere condolences and best wishes.

I am so sorry to hear of Ed's passing. My condolences to
his family. He was a great guy, honest businessman and
an old school car guy that cared about what he sold and
how he treated people. The world lost one of the good ones.

Pauline Dale and Kelly, there are no words to express how sorry I am. He was a wonderful man and an and a legend to me. He treated me like family from the day I walked through the door of the shop to buy my first car. He was amazing to each of my children, and everyone that I referred there. He was so excited the year that Kelly moved back home and wanted to introduce us because he knew we´d be friends instantly and he was right. I know the last few years have not been the best and now I only hope that he can rest in peace
