Edward Guire Obituary

Guire, Edward "Ned" COHOES Edward "Ned" Guire, 84, of White St., entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 after a long illness surrounded by his loving family. Ned was born August 28, 1923 in Waterford, the son of the late James and Jane Larkin Guire. He was a graduate of LaSalle Institute in Troy, class of 1941. Ed began his career at the United Traction Company as a bus driver and soon rose to become business agent for the Amalgamated Transit Union and retired as the director of human services from the Capital District Transportation Authority after 46 years. In addition, he held the following posts during his illustrious career: president of the Amalgamated Transit Union, president of the Troy Area Labor Council AFL-CIO, vice president of the Albany Federation of Labor AFL-CIO, vice president of the Union Labor and Service Trades AFL-CIO, chairperson of Albany County CoCap, chairman of the Cohoes Democratic Committee, director of city of Cohoes Civil Defense, was recipient of the Labor Leader of the Year in 1976 and retired benefits director of CDTA. Ned was foremost a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was active in local politics and was proud to have befriended congressman, senators, legislators, mayors and those many hard working behind the scenes average folk like himself. Ed was husband of the late Ruth McMahon Guire who died in 1995. Survivors include his sons, James Guire of Cohoes, E. Dennis Guire of Waterford, John (Sandy) Bonkoski of Cohoes, Sharon (Patrick) Lecce of Grafton and Colleen Kennedy of Cohoes. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grand-children. He was predeceased by his sisters, Monica Varley (Ken) and Mary Fitzgerald (Thomas). A special thank you to Ann Vogel and Mark Frament for their benevolence and support through the years and during our father's final journey. Neds family would also like to thank the team of home health aids, Mary, Dawn, Ruth and Matt who cared for our father during this transitional period. Funeral services will be Saturday morning at 8:45 a.m. from the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Bernard's Church, Cohoes. Jimmy, Denny, Sherri, and Colleen,
I was sorry to hear of my Uncle Ned's passing. I always loved it when he came to our house because he made us laugh. He was a great brother to my mom. I am sure you will miss him forever.

I remember Ned when he would come over to do my Mom's taxes. Also the trips to their house to visit with Ruth and Aunt Lil, Sherri, Colleen when I was little. I'll always remember Ned as the soft spoken guy . He was a real sweety and I know he was loved so much by his family.
Our Condolence,
Cousin Lori
