Kenney, Edward William
NORTH GREENBUSH - Edward W. Kenney of North Greenbush, artist, illustrator, and staff of the Conservationist Magazine died peacefully on September 20, 2023, at the age of 96.
Edward grew up in Troy to parents of Marcella and Edward Kenney. He cared for them at the home they shared. Edward attended LaSalle Institute. He joined the Navy at 18 and served as a Seaman First Class in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was awarded three distinguished metals and received an honorable discharge.
Upon returning to New York he enrolled at the Phoenix School in New York City where he studied commercial art. On returning to Albany, he joined the N.Y.S. Dept. of Conservation. He worked in advertising and display art. His work has appeared in Grays Sporting Journal, as cover art for the book Capital Inland Fishes of N.Y.S. published by the American Museum of Natural History and Field & Stream Magazine. As a member of the North Shore Artists Association, Gloucester, Mass., his original paintings are held in private collections. He has exhibited at the N.Y. State Wildlife Art Show, The International Wildlife Expo & Upper Hudson Mohawk Region Show. Kenney currently has another limited edition print published by the International Game Fish Association in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. His paintings were selected for the National Arts in the Parks Show in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He exhibited paintings at the Bennington Center for the Arts in Vermont.
As well as continuing to paint in his retirement, Edward enjoyed traveling to Greece, Italy and Israel. He was also fond of spending time in Rockport, Mass., Cape Cod and Florida.
He was a devout Catholic, Eucharistic Minister, and part of the prayer group at St. Henry's Parish in Averill Park.
Edward is survived by his dear best friend, Frances Johansson; her children, Ronald (Elizabeth) Johansson and Maria (Jonathan) Pollack; and grandchildren, Christopher, Emily and Jack Johansson, and Anna Pollack. He also leaves behind his good friends, Frank and Ann Lukovits, Robert and Jean Work, and Anele Dzekciorius. Edward was always humble, kind, and a true and loyal friend.
Friends of Edward would like to especially thank Farther John Cronin, Dr. Richard Orsi, the nurses and doctors at the Samaritan Hospital, the Shaker Place Nursing Home & Hospice for their compassionate care during the final days of Edward's life.
Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on October 25, at St. Henry's Church 39 Old Route 66 Averill Park with Rev. John Cronin.
Donations may be made in Edwards's name to St. Henry's Church for the Building Fund and Knights of Columbus good works.
