Edward Vogel Obituary

Vogel, Edward Jr.
COLONIE - Edward John Vogel Jr., "The Word," passed away on June 6, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family and long-time friends after a brief, unexpected battle with cancer.
Edward was born on April 20, 1958, in Albany. He recently celebrated his 67th birthday in Arizona to see the Grand Canyon, which was one of his bucket list adventures.
He is survived by his loving mother, Helen Vogel of Westport; his siblings, Gloria Luciano, Don (Anne) Vogel, Laura (Michael) Tyler, Gwen (Tim) Sherman, Arleen (Bruce) Phillips, Maria (David) Spadafora and his youngest brother, Stephen (Kate) Vogel. Eddie shared a close and playful bond with his many nieces and nephews, especially Jason, who was his neighbor and trusted friend. He was predeceased by his wife Lori; his father, Edward Vogel; his brother, Daniel Vogel; and his grandparents, Margaret Genac "Nana," Margaret Vogel, and Henry Vogel.
Eddie loved his family and would do anything to help them; he often generously opened his doors to provide them with a place to stay at his house. His favorite pastime was betting on the horse races at Saratoga and going to OTB with one of his best friends, Attila. He looked forward to playing golf each year in his golf league and played so well that he won the league multiple times. The Tanneberger Tournament in Westport was perhaps the greatest rounds of golf that he looked forward to every year. He had played every tournament since its inception, and he and his brother Don proudly won their flight. As a younger man, Eddie was a talented athlete who participated in track and field, and his love of sports stayed with him throughout his life. He was an avid sports fan of the New York Yankees, Giants, and Knicks - never missing a game and often watching them with his brother Donny at his side.
Ed was known to be the "life of the party" and would dance the night away with his sisters. He hosted parties at his house for his family and friends, and occasionally the annual "Winter Hatin" party where competition in darts, cards, beer pong and pool were part of the fun. Eddie was famous for his behind-the-back shots while playing pool.
He loved to compete, no matter the game, but always made it fun. He kept his competitive edge going through the year playing in dart, bowling and basketball leagues. Learning and reading about history and gaining a green thumb in gardening was also a passion of his.
In his work life, Eddie was as steady and skilled as he was in his personal life. He took great pride in his craft as a professional house painter. Known for his reliability, precision, and strong work ethic, he never missed a day of work and built not just a career, but meaningful friendships, through the homes and lives he touched.
Eddie Vogel lived a vibrant, generous, and meaningful life. He will be remembered for his big heart, his sense of humor, his love for competition, and the way he brought people together. His presence will be missed beyond words, and his legacy will live on in every story, every tradition, and every person lucky enough to have known him.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Ed´s passing.
We shared many rounds of golf over the years, and I´ll always remember his steady swing, enormous slice, dry wit, and kind spirit. He was a true gentleman on and off the course. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. May his memory be a blessing.
