Emily Fagan Etzkorn

DELMAR Emily Fagan Etzkorn, 83, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2004, at her daughter's home in Amsterdam, following a brief illness. She was met by Edward, her husband of more than 60 years, who died on July 21, 2003. Emily was lovingly cared for during her illness by her seven children and their families. Emily was born in Astoria, N.Y., the daughter of Thomas and Agnes Flanagan Fagan. She grew up in Freeport, Long Island and there met and married Edward A. Etzkorn on July 5, 1943. Later, upon moving to upstate New York, she and Ed operated the Auriesville Shrine Cafeteria for 15 years. However, Emily will best be remembered for her lifelong devotion to children and was clearly happiest in their presence. Besides being active in the lives of her children and grandchildren, she helped care for children with disabilities, volunteered for the Jump Start Reading program at Glenmont School and participated in many community and library youth programs. She is survived by her children, Dr. Edward R. Etzkorn and his wife Van of Fountain Valley, Calif., Dr. Eugene T. Etzkorn and his wife Letty of Tacoma, Wash., William G. Etzkorn and his wife Wendy of Hurricane, W.Va., Robert J. Etzkorn and his wife Doreen of Fonda, N.Y., Dr. Eloise Potenza and her husband Vince of Delmar, Dr. Eileen Monuszko and her husband Jim of Vero Beach, Fla. and Dr. Emily T. Etzkorn and her husband Jerry LaMori of Amsterdam, N.Y.; 22 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers, Thomas, George, Jack and Robert Fagan; one sister, Marie Fagan Rovegno. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, February 11, 10 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Delmar. Relatives and friends are also invited to call Tuesday 4 to 7 p.m. at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar.
