Enid Smith Obituary

Smith, Enid ALBANY Enid Smith, age 78, of Albany died on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at her residence. Enid was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and was the daughter of the late Ben and Lea Alpert Smith. She was a graduate of the Albany High School. She taught ballet, modern and creative dance to children and adults in the Albany area. Enid had performed with the Albany Civic Dance Group and the Albany Institute of History and Art as well as Temple Israel in Albany. She changed careers midstream and earned a BS and an MA degree in psychology from St. Francis College and Long Island University. Having completed her studies, she began work as a psycho therapist. She later set up a task force with the NYS Department of the Aging to benefit the elderly. In 1989, Enid worked as a therapist at St. Anne's Institute, as well as private practice in the Albany area, and was the assistant director of Children's Services at the Albany Jewish Community Center. She was sincere, honest and caring and was always an advocate for the rights of others. She was a member of Temple Israel and B'nai Sholom Reform Congregation. Graveside services will be held at the Temple Israel Cemetery, Western Avenue in Guilderland on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity to help others or animals in need. Enid and I became friends during her stays here at the Hospice Inn. A real character, with many challenges in life to overcome. She was her best advocate and she made me laugh. Enid was proud of her work at St. Anne's home for girls here in Albany. Shalom to Enid.
