SLINGERLANDS - Enid Lee Watsky was born on July 15, 1926, and died on June 8, 2023.
Enid married the late Dr. S. Robert "Bob" Watsky in 1945 and is survived by their five children, Diana Sirkin (Steve), Russel Watsky (Genie), Mana Watsky (Paul Levine), Matthew Watsky (Nancy Gottlieb), and Jay Watsky (Jackie). She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
After starting her family in Mount Vernon, Enid moved to Poughkeepsie. In addition to raising her family, she assisted people from Hudson River State Hospital transition from psychiatric care to independent living. As her kids got older, she claimed that her life "began at 40," when she was able to find time to enjoy a variety of activities. She learned to ski, worked out regularly at the gym, and attended classes at Vassar College. She learned to paint and was very active in the Dutchess County Art Association, Barrett House Art Center, and was a founding member of Opus 6, a group of artists who painted together. One of her legacies is that she left the world a more beautiful place because of the art she created.
After Bob's death, Enid moved to Beverwyck, an independent living community. She made many friends and enjoyed the variety of activities there, especially trips for classical music concerts. She taught art classes and enjoyed exhibiting her art in local galleries and other spaces. She was especially passionate about women's reproductive rights. She founded a chapter of Planned Parenthood at Beverwyck and was distraught by the regression of women's reproductive rights over the last few years after working so hard for progress in her lifetime.
Enid moved to Eddy Village Green, a skilled nursing facility, in 2020, and we are grateful for the wonderful care provided there.
A memorial service is being planned for 1 p.m. on July 22, at the Beverwyck.
