Eugene Pettis Obituary

Pettis, Eugene CLIFTON PARK Eugene Pettis, 89, of Clifton Park, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2017. Born on October 11, 1927, in Saratoga, he was the son of the late Sarah and Albert Pettis. He was predeceased by his wife, Edna June Pettis. He graduated from Saratoga High and attended Farm School put on by the VA of Amsterdam for 3 years. Eugene proudly served as a United States Marine in WWll. He worked numerous jobs including Putman Place, Daakes Ice Cream, before it was purchased by Stewarts, GE and the power lab in West Milton. He also ran his own contracting firm, Eugene Pettis Home Maintenance, Inc. He discovered his love of horses at the family farm at 18 months of age. At a very young age, in the fall of the year 1928, Eugene developed polio. He credits horses for his ability to live the gifted life he was given. He was attached to a horse, a grey back mare, and was able to ride and it gave him hope and a future. Eugene was a member of the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church; the Clifton Park Senior Center; and was proud of his years of service to the Boy Scouts of America; and affiliated with the Double H Ranch through his donation of building materials and crafts, giving children hope and continue their love of horses. The family would like to thank the Capital Living and Rehab Center in Schenectady for the loving care provided during his stay. Special thanks also go to Rhonda Latz, Kathleen Samaniuk-Hayes and Darlene Stanton for their keeping watch over Eugene in his health and during his failing months. He is survived by his three sons, Ron (David), John (Eileen) Pettis and Dave (Jennifer) Pettis; his sister, Virginia Antis; grandchildren, Robert, Tim, Jessica, Josh and Brittney; and a nephew, Keith. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, 9 to 11 a.m., with a service at 11 a.m. at the Catricala Funeral Home Inc., 1597 Route, Clifton Park. Burial will follow in Saratoga National Cemetery. Donations may be made in Eugene's memory to The Peaceful Acres Horse Farm. He was a firm supporter of the work done by the caring staff of the Peaceful Acres Horse Farm in Pattersonville, N.Y. Dear Eugene It broke my heart when I heard you passed away, but I know you are happy now that you are with your best girl June, I know you missed her and felt so alone with out her. You are now free of pain to do all the things you and June used to do together. It was amazing to be a part of your life and for being the Grandfather I wish I had when I was younger. Thank you for your service to our great nation as a Marine, you were selfless in your duty to your country and to your family, friends and community. Thank you for being the special Marine you will always be. Love ya with all my heart, Darlene
