As a VA Chaplain, I arrived at the VA this morning for my regular Wednesday Chaplain duties and found out that Eugene had passed away last Friday. My deepest condolences to his entire family.
Last week I knew how weak he was getting but nothing could prevent him from giving me a big smile when I entered the room. Everytime I would visit him (usually in the Dialysis Room on the 2nd floor) he would smile, share scripture, praise God and offer prayers. At the conclusion of our prayers we would sing "Amen" over and over again and finally harmonize the last "Amen" The nurses would look at us and often say-"Great Harmony".
I am sorry I was not there for you last Friday but please remember that you are in my prayers often.
Eugene was a wonderful, devout, Chrsitian man and he ministered to me as much as I hope I ministered to him.
I will give you a phone call in soon and see how you are doing. I will meet with Ari Mae at St. Margarets Daylight Program when I come next. May God bless and give her the strength she needs in the days ahead.
