WEST COXSACKIE - Eugene Bronk VanSlyke, 73, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2025. Born in Catskill, he was the son of the late Bronk and Doris VanSlyke.
Gene attended Ravena Coeymans Selkirk School. He worked as a carpenter, until he took a job as a heavy equipment operator, at LaFarge in the early 1990s. He retired after many years of service in 2014.
Gene loved his Mustang, the outdoors, camping, hunting, fishing, manicuring his lawn to perfection, and caring for the home he lovingly built for his family, good music. He was an avid movie collector, always had to have the latest technology, and knew every episode of NCIS by heart.
Gene is survived by his children, Amy (Scott) Osterhout, April (Howard) Amiel, Paul (Kristen) VanSlyke; and their mother, Susan; his grandchildren, Madison VanDenburgh, Austin, Ava, and Kayla Osterhout, Leo and Everett Amiel, Brandon and Reagan VanSlyke; his siblings, Dan (Susie) VanSlyke, Jim VanSlyke, Jeffrey (Laura) VanSlyke and Mary Boudroux; and his faithful dog, Luke.
A special thanks goes to his closest friend and companion, Katherine Chapman, who provided endless love and support over the years.
In addition to his mother and father, he was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Jennifer VanSlyke.
Family and friends are invited, and may call, from 4 to 6 p.m., with service at 6 p.m., on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at the Babcock Funeral Home, 19 Pulver Ave., Ravena, N.Y. 12143.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Eugene can be made to the Greene County Community Hospice.
