Eugene Wells Obituary

Wells, Eugene O.
SCHENECTADY - Eugene O. Wells, age 98, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 24, 2023.
Eugene was born on December 26, 1924, in Syracuse, and was the son of the late George F. and Marjorie E. (Lake) Wells. Eugene graduated from high school and following graduation enlisted in the United States military, serving his country honorably from 1943 - 1946. After his discharge, Eugene returned home to marry his high school sweetheart, the late Josephine (Gocklin) Wells. He then furthered his education, earning his master's degree in math and science from Syracuse University in 1952. Eugene and Josephine moved to Schenectady, where Gene worked for G.E. as a manager for the General and Tax Accounting Department until his retirement in 1985.
Following retirement, Gene served as board president for the Schenectady City Mission and was president of the local chapter of the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship International. Gene loved gardening, and reading and was active in his local reformed church. Gene also enjoyed trout fishing and hiking in the Adirondacks. Gene was an above-average baseball player in his day and an avid New York Mets fan.
Eugene is survived by his three children, Martin (Hillary) Wells, Sandra Wells and Susan Lauver; his adored grandchildren, Kimberly (Mark) Fletcher and Karen (Neil) Schunk; and five great-grandchildren, Elise, William, Maura, Hunter and Logan.
Gene remarried later in life to Sheila (Sandman) Gordon, who is also deceased. He has a stepdaughter, Alicia Gordon and step-grandchildren, Josh and Zachary Gordon.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Saturday, April 1, from 10-11 a.m. at the Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Road, Ballston Lake. A service will be held at 11 a.m., followed by a reception at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be held in the spring in the Jonesville Cemetery, Clifton Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Schenectady City Mission, P.O. Box 760, Schenectady, NY, 12301, or The Community Hospice, 310 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY, 12208.
Arrangements are entrusted to Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, Ballston Lake, and they encourage you to view and leave messages on Eugene's Book of Memories at TownleyWheelerFH.com.

You can tell a lot about a tree by the fruit it produces. Having known Marty and Sandy for several years, and knowing what good "fruit" they have produced, clearly the "Eugene tree" was a good "tree".

Gene and Jo were instrumental in my parents walk with the Lord. They loved my family through some difficult times. Gene prayed with me to ask the Lord into my heart and for Holy Spirit Baptism. My mom adored him and my dad looked to him for guidance. I remember asking him once Jesus was in my Heart how do I know he is always there. "Lori, he made a covenant- a promise that he will never leave no matter what you do! He is in there! Just like Ragu spaghetti sauce....it´s in there" As a 13 year old unsure of so much I went on having the security that one thing was always for sure...Jesus was in there!

Gene was very religious and thoughtful man. He has been going through tough times for years and both his daughters Sue and Sandy were there for him. They will miss him along with a feeling of great loss. Now he is out of pain and in heaven with Josephine after many years of being apart. He will be looking down on the family and guiding you every step of the way until you are all together again. May he rest in peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time.

Dear Marty & Sandy. I was saddened to see the loss of your father and appreciate him for the fine character he has influenced in the two of you. Though I don't know your mutual sister, I am confident that she shares your same fine qualities. I will be unable to attend the visitation and funeral owing to a prior obligation but I will make a donation in Gene's memory shortly. May you find comfort in the assurances of Paradise per the very words of Jesus, whose faith I know you all share. Brian & Judi

Gene was a sweet and gentle soul. My husband and I enjoyed square dancing and talking to him. He gave nice yellow rocks. Surely he now in the arms of our Lord now. To the family we are so sorry for your loss.---Bill and Carol Gordon (Single Squares dancing club)
