Evalyn Conklin Obituary

Conklin, Evalyn K. ROTTERDAM Evalyn K. Conklin, 86, of Rotterdam, died on Thursday, August 7, 2008 at Albany Medical Center. Born in Trivoli, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Oren and Etta Keel. During World War II, Evalyn served as a technician fourth grade with the Army. She worked for the government for over 25 years, retiring in 1978 as an administrative clerk in U.S. Navy Recruitment in Scotia, N.Y. Evalyn was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Perry Historians and the Peoria Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Evalyn was predeceased in 1995 by her husband of 47 years, Russell V. Conklin. She is survived by her children, Gail Conklin of Slingerlands, Denise Smith (David) of Simpsonville, S.C. and Laurie Conklin Kamp (Ira) of Ithaca, N.Y.; a brother, Oren (Bud) Keel of Ill.; sisters, Mildred Marinich and Lorriane Busby of Ill. and Betty Wilken of Mo.; six grandchildren, Rachel Clark, Reuben Kamp, Ariel Tucci, Maya Tucci, Mariko Smith and Taro Smith; a great-grandson, Jack Clark; her beloved cat, Callie; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Albany Medical Center Neuroscience Unit for there loving care of our mother. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 11 at 10 a.m. at Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Ave., Schenectady, N.Y. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. Interment with military honors will be held in Evergreen Memorial Park. Contributions may be made in her memory to the Women's Memorial Foundation, Department 560, Washington, DC 20042-0560.
