Evelyn M. Stevens

Stevens, Evelyn M. BERNE Evelyn M. Stevens, 74 of Berne, passed away on July 21, 2021, after fighting to stay in this world until the end. Evelyn was born on February 15, 1947, to the late Lewis and Lillian Briggs of Knox. She graduated from Berne-Knox-Westerlo Central School District. She worked for the New York State Thruway and retired after 36 years of service. In grade school, she met Gilbert Stevens Sr. and the two were inseparable from that point on. Evelyn and Gilbert were married for over 54 years. Evelyn was a fiercely dedicated mom, wife, nanny, auntie and friend. Family came first and was above all else to Evelyn, a value she instilled in all those around her. The hole left by her absence is impossible to fill. She is survived by her devoted husband Gilbert Stevens Sr.; her children, Gilbert Stevens Jr. (Kim), and Christina Maxwell (Shawn); her grandchildren, Breeane Hillyerd (John), Ethan Stevens, Anthony Clements, and Riley Maxwell; her great-grandchildren, Jake Hillyerd and Julia Hillyerd; her sister, Beverly Shimmer (Fred); and so many kids and friends she loved like her own. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, August 7, from 12-3 p.m. at the Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Main St., Altamont.
