Florence Dooley Obituary

Florence, Dooley TROY Florence "Sissy" Carolyn Dooley, 92 of Troy, passed away peacefully at the Van Rensselaer Manor assisted living facility surrounded by the love of her family on March 10, 2022. Born in Troy on January 28, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Florence MacAllister. She was predeceased by her brother Robert "Bobby" Macallister. She is survived by her children, Barney Dooley (Lisa) of Grafton, Jeff Dooley of Troy, and Kimberly Dooley of Troy; her grandchildren, Laura Weir (Matt) of Grafton, Rachel Mosher (Jonathan) of Sarasota, Fla., Emily Brock (Karl) of Berlin, and Braden Symansky of Troy; and her great-grandchildren, Alyda, Josephine, Adeline and one on the way. Also left behind is her dear friend, Peter Crandall. Florence retired from the New York State Senate Research where she worked as an administrative assistant for many years. She had a passion for flying and took to the skies after obtaining her pilot's license. She was an active member of multiple groups including the Ninety-Nines, Inc. of the NYCDC, Condair Flyers and Civil Air Patrol. She also belonged to the Grafton, and Lansingburgh historical societies. Florence was most happy when she could be outside, tending to her flowers and was an avid member of the Master Gardener group of Troy. The family would like to take a moment to thank the nurses and attendants of the Van Rensselaer Manor assisted living facility for your compassion and kindness during Florence's time there. You went beyond what anyone could ever ask and our family will keep your wonderful staff in our hearts. Family and friends are invited and may call from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, at Frank P. McDonald & Son Funeral Home, 870 Second Ave., 124th and 125th Streets, Lansingburgh. A short graveside ceremony will be held immediately following calling hours. Sissy loved animals, any desired donations may be made to the Humane Society. Kim, Jeff & Barney,
I'm sorry we didn't get to the funeral. Until you called, Kim, we did not know that Sissy ( one of my few 1st. Cousins) had passed. We don't get newspapers up here in the mountains. I called cousins Norman & Mary Lou and left messages. I will always have many great memories of visits to your grandparents home & camp. Are prayers are with you and all the family.

Florence was a huge part of our Master Gardener program. She was volunteered for just about all of our activities, was a great gardener, and was fun to be around. I have several "Florence stories" which I will always treasure. It was always fun to talk with Florence, she had a million stories and was full of life. Our condolences to you Jeff and Kim.

Your Mother is someone who is dear to your heart. She teaches you what means most, things about life, how to love, how to joke! She is your mentor; she listens, gives you her best advice. She is so special from beginning to end, you never want her to leave or say goodbye, and when that time comes, you want to cry. Never forget, always in spirit always with you, just listen and you'll hear, her soft voice whisper, I am here don't cry, just think of me and you'll never ever have to say goodbye.
