Florence Wilson Obituary

Wilson, Florence A. DELMAR Florence Alexandria Wilson, of Delmar, and formerly an 80 year resident of New York City, died on Monday, August 3, 2015, with family by her side. She is survived by her brother, Walter (Joan) Wilson of New Jersey. She also leaved behind cherished nieces and nephews, Ellen (Hanson) Danis, Jonn Hanson, Vicky (Wilson) Arose, Geoffrey Wilson, Malcolm Wilson, Douglas Wilson, and Diane (Bruce) Twachtmann, along with many grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews, all of whom she often tried to convince others were her own children. She was the devoted daughter of the late Walter and Louise (Klaussman) Wilson and joins in heaven her sister and best friend, Agnes (Wilson) Hanson and beloved niece, Joanne (Hanson) Mahony. Florence spent her professional career with MetLife Insurance, often telling tales of the computer "that took up an entire floor." Her true vocation was serving the Episcopal Church. A long-time parishioner of the Church of the Transfiguration ("The Little Church Around the Corner") in Manhattan, she loved organizing rummage sales, managing the office, sending birthday and anniversary cards, helping the clergy and guiding fellow parishioners, all in service to the Lord. Florence was famous for her lemon cupcakes with chocolate frosting, her veracious reading of romance novels, and her love of New York City's art, culture and even a WNBA game or two. She traveled the world with a group of wonderful friends, visiting Israel, Egypt, Italy, Japan, etc. Her favorite location of all was wherever her family and friends were which led to her constantly asking "when are you coming to visit." Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2015, at 10 a.m., in St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Delmar. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, Hastings-on- Hudson. Those who wish may send memorial contributions to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Elsmere and Poplar Dr., Delmar, NY 12054 or The Smile Train, 245 5th Ave., Suite 2201, NY, NY 10016. Thank you Aunt Florie for lending me your middle name and being my godmother. I couldn't have asked for anyone more caring and loving. I wish you godspeed and hope you and my mom are able to get together and catch up on old times. Much love...one last hug.
