Frank Flynn Obituary

TROY Frank J. Flynn Sr., 86, passed away at his home after a short illness. He was the son of the late Francis X. and Margaret Burns Flynn. Mr. Flynn was born in Albany but made his home in Troy for the last 56 years. He was a World War II veteran having served in the Fourth Armored Division, 3rd Army under General George Patton. Mr. Flynn was awarded the Purple Heart with three clusters, as well as the Bronze Star and the Silver Star. He was commissioned 2nd lieutenant and 1st lieutenant in the field. For over 37 years Mr. Flynn was employed by the Coca Cola Company. Later he was with the New York State Tax Department until his retirement in 1986. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Frances Pickering Flynn; their children, Margaret A. Williams (Jeffrey C.), Frank J. Flynn Jr. (Cheryl S.) and Jane F. Harrigan (Michael J.), as well as seven grandchildren, Thomas E., Lindsay L., and Ashleey Williams, Cheri Flynn Warner and John F. Flynn, and Amanda and Brendan Harrigan. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Ryan, Emily and Cailyn Williams. The funeral will be on Monday at 9 a.m. from Daniel D. Purcell Funeral Home, 510 Pauling Avenue (corner of Parkview Court), Troy and at 9:30 a.m. at St. William Church, Madison Ave., Troy where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will be in the Blessed Sacrament Mausoleum at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands. Viewing hours will be on Sunday at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Donations may be made to Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144.
