ALBANY - Francesco "Frank" Benito Salvatore Mesiti passed peacefully surrounded by his family on November 21, 2024, in Sarasota, Fla. Frank was born on September 11, 1938, in Gioiosa Ionica Marina, Italy, as the son of Guiseppe "Joe" Mesiti and Clementina (Agostino) Mesiti.
Frank was a young child during a difficult WWII, which ravaged his native country. In 1956, he emigrated from Italy to the U.S., and lived in Albany with his parents and siblings. He played semi-pro soccer for the Albany Athletic Club and New York Giuliana. In 1959, he moved to New York City where he met his wife to be and love of his life, Caterina Ranieri, whom he married on August 5, 1961. Frank was a master carpenter, who began his own successful construction company in New York City. In 1974, he and his immediate family moved to Albany, where he continued his successful construction business. Frank personally built the homes of his parents, many of his siblings, children, and his friends. Frank loved to hunt, swim, roller skate, bowl, play soccer and volleyball, and smoke his cigars. Frank retired from construction in his early 60s and spent his retirement years in Albany, Wells, N.Y., and Sarasota, Fla. He loved to spend time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Frank leaves behind his wife, Catherine; his sons, Nick Mesiti (Kyle), Paul Mesiti (Kim), and Frank Mesiti Jr. (Anne); his daughters, Anne Marie Mesiti and Tina Mesiti-Ceas (Philippe); as well as his grandchildren, Andrea Mesiti (Aaron), Francesca Callahan (Ian), Vito Mesiti, James Mesiti, Victoria Fleitz, Matthew Mesiti, Juliette Ceas, Clement Ceas, and Leo Mesiti; his sisters, Rosa (Bill) Belleville, Anna (Volker) Scherer and Paula (Dave) Harrington; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers, Nick (Maria) Mesiti, Pasquale Mesiti; his sister, Mirella ("Bill") Ringwood.
Friends and family are invited to attend Visitation on Monday, December 2, 2024, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 p.m., at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, N.Y. 12205. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 9:00 a.m., in All Saints Catholic Church, 16 Homestead St., Albany, N.Y. 12203. Burial will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
