STEPHENTOWN - It is with great sadness that we share news of the unexpected passing of Frederick W. Kruger on September 27, 2024, at his home.
Fred was born on December 11, 1958, to his parents, Edna and Fred Kruger of Lebanon Springs, N.Y. He was a 1976 graduate of New Lebanon Central School. He attended Berkshire Community College where he studied hotel and restaurant management. He worked at several well-known establishments in the Berkshires, learning his trade. In 1998 he became the proprietor of Hanson's Restaurant in Hancock, Mass which under his direction became Powderhounds. He successfully operated Powderhounds until 2023.
Fred was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Janet. He leaves a sister, Barbara Brooke and her husband Glenn, niece Kate and her husband Ryan, and nephew Christopher and his wife Renee, and their children Liz and Josie. He also leaves his dog Fritzi.
We would like to extend a special thank you to his close friends Don and Inge Decrosta, Steve Beach and Lenny Brown and many others he reached out to for their unselfish support and friendship during these past few weeks.
We will always remember his dry sense of humor and the fantastic Thanksgivings he hosted at the restaurant, open to friends and family who might want to join the festivities.
All are invited to a visitation in Fred's memory from 5 to 7 PM on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at Hall and Higgins Funeral Home in Stephentown. A private committal will follow at a later date.
