George T. Armstrong

1930 - 2022

Armstrong, George T. MECHANICVILLE George T. Armstrong, 91 of Fairway Drive, died peacefully in the comfort of his home on March 2, 2022. Born in Brooklyn on December 2, 1930, the son of the late George J. and Edna Tietjen Armstrong, he was a 1953 graduate of Syracuse University and proud member of its Sigma Nu fraternity. It was at Syracuse he met his wife of 57 years Marion Jane Gros. After college, George joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country aboard the USS Suisun (AVP-53). George raised his family in Syracuse before moving to Mechanicville where they were ardent SU sports fans. He and his wife cherished time with family consisting of, coaching his son's youth baseball teams (which included championship Little League seasons), family vacations to Florida, and many boating trips together. An outdoorsman by nature, he also enjoyed fishing, Adirondack hiking, and just an overall love of animals and nature. George was an industrial sales representative for various companies before working as a sole proprietor, retiring in the mid-90s. In his later years, George and his wife moved to Mechanicville to be closer to family where he was a member of Christ Community Reformed Church in Clifton Park. George was predeceased by his wife, Marion Jane Armstrong, who died in 2011. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Laurel and Brian Remus of Clifton Park; his son and daughter-in-law, George J. and Debra Armstrong of Vero Beach, Fla.; his granddaughter, Amanda Marion Remus and her husband, Ulises Nunez of Atlanta; and a sister, Margaret Armstrong of Hackettsown, N.J. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on May 6, in the Christ Community Reformed Church, 1010 Route 146, Clifton Park with burial to follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
