George Kern Obituary

Kern, George A. AVERILL PARK George A. Kern, 72, of Buy Way, died on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy after a long illness. Born in Troy, George was the son of the late Leo A. Kern and V. Edna Lucas Migliore and husband of Marilyn Dobert Kern. George had resided in Cohoes before moving to Averill Park 50 years ago. George had served in the Army from 1956-1959 and had retired in 2000 from the Insurance Services Office (ISO) in Syracuse where he had been a field representative for 38 years. George was a member of the Averill Park - Sand Lake Fire Department for 20 years and had held offices and positions in the department including chief and commissioner. George was a former Little League coach and was a soccer fan and enjoyed woodworking and the art of woodburning. Survivors in addition to his wife include his children, Michael (Linda) Kern of Conn., Leo (Christine) Kern of Schodack, Karen (Paul) King of Poestenkill, Timothy (Kathy) Kern of Va., Elaine (Clint) Peterson of Stephentown and David Kern of Sand Lake; a brother, Ernest (Sheila) Kern of Wynantskill; 11 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services will be private at the convenience of the family. If desired, donations in memory of George A. Kern may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc., 2 Pine West Plaza, Suite 204, Albany, NY 12205 or the Averill Park Sand Lake Fire Department, PO Box 116, Averill Park, NY 12018. Arrangements by the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel Inc., Averill Park, N.Y.

My condolence goes out to the Kern family. I went to school with Michael and delivered the Times Record in the neighborhood. Mr. "K" was a nice man and firefighter and Mrs "K" made the best cookies in town. God bless.
