George Tolhurst Obituary

Tolhurst, George R. LADY LAKE, Fla./CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. George R. Tolhurst, 89, of Palmer Drive, formerly of Clifton Park, entered into the arms of the Lord on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at The Villages Regional Hospital in Lady Lakes, Fla. George was born in E. Syracuse on November 11, 1918, the son of the late Charles and Gertrude Lehman Tolhurst. George was also predeceased by his foster parents, Ray and Edna Smith. George was a graduate of E. Syracuse High School and attended CCBI in Syracuse and Syracuse University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in accounting. George served his country in the Army and was stationed in England during World War II and he was in the Army Reserves until 1968, retiring with the rank of Lt. Colonel. George was employed by General Electric Company for 33 years as an accountant in many locations, including Schenectady, Syracuse, Conn., Paris, Denmark and England. George was a past grand master of Crossroads Lodge #520 F&AM in Solvay, N.Y. He was a member of the Elfun Society and the Clifton Park Seniors. He enjoyed bowling, golf, basketball and senior softball. In addition to his parents and foster parents, George was predeceased by his wife, the late Carolyn Eyerman Tolhurst who died on August 18, 1989; also six brothers and sisters, Raymond, Clifford, Mabel, Dorothy, Viena, and Blanche. Survivors include his longtime companion, Sadie Parent, with whom he wintered in Fla. within the last few years, where they enjoyed trips, bingo and each other; his loving daughter, Lynn C. (David Steele) Wilber of Clifton Park; his granddaughter, Kelly L. (Steeve) Lemay, his great-grandchildren, Kamm, Callan and Kasen Lemay, all of Wilton, N.Y.; and one brother, Joseph Tolhurst of E. Syracuse. The family would like to give their deepest thanks to Don and Jeannie Shimp of Fla. for their loving help and support. Funeral service to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be held on Friday, April 11, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home 1550 Route 9, Clifton Park. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Memory's Garden. Memorials in George's memory may be made to the American Heart Association Northeastern Area 440 New Karner Road Albany, NY, 12205-3890.
