Gregg Millett Obituary

Millett, Gregg Baldwin PhD NISKAYUNA Gregg Baldwin Millett, PhD, 77, passed away peacefully at home on August 1, 2016, after a battle with cancer. Gregg was a champion of peace and international friendship, an advocate with abundant humor and boundless energy. Gregg had mutual respect and admiration for people both in his local community and throughout the world. He was instrumental in establishing a sister city relationship between Schenectady and Kunming, China, after joining forces with Kunming entrepreneur, Jin Feibao. Together they brought Gregg's father's photographs of World War II China to be exhibited in Chinese museums, where they are now held as a National Treasure. Gregg was a university professor, a homesteader in Nicaragua and the founder and current president of Singles Outreach Services, which, for 33 years, has provided social and educational activities for over 50,000 people throughout the Capital District. He was the master of technical engineering behind Schenectady Today, (now in its 18th year) hosted by his life companion of 30 years, Ann Parillo. Gregg's presence can be felt in the lives of the thousands of people he touched, near and far. Born and raised in Omaha, Neb., Gregg is survived by his beloved partner, Annie; six children; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, one brother, two sisters, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at Bond Funeral Home, 1614 Guilderland Ave., Schenectady, on Sunday, August 7, starting at 2:30 p.m. with shared memories starting at 4 p.m. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Gregg Millett Memorial Scholarship Fund at Proctor's Theatre, 432 State St., Schenectady, NY 12305. Great Guy...many pleasant memories of SOS

Dear Anne, my heartfelt condolences - I had no knowledge of his illness - and kept on Emailing him - we connected in this manner for years after I moved and had to forgo my "very active" membership... He loved asking me to teach a variety of Workshops after I joined and became a member of SOS in the Fall of 1987. He always participated eagerly and was a joy to be with...He will be in my prayers; as will you - dear Ann ! Viera B.

Dear Ann and the family and friends of Gregg Millett,

When my wife divorced me 24 years ago, the principal haven for a middle aged man such as me was SOS. I had not known Gregg beforehand, but he made it a point to personally connect with a newcomer to the organization. I found him to be a thoughtful, compassionate man. Although I did not remain with the organization, I followed Gregg's many endeavors over the succeeding years. To me, it seemed like Gregg's sole purpose in life was to "give back" to his community in whatever way he could. In doing so, he became an inspiration for everyone he touched along the way. It can truly be said that his was a life worth living.

Please accept my condolences on the passing of a good man.

Gregg was indeed a true friend to so many, but you felt like you were the most special person in the room in his eyes when you were with him. never have i met a more gentle, kind, sweet and loving person. he was also fiercely imaginative and also pragmatic. i will miss my fellow Omaha friend, Gregg, and the twinkle in his eye!

I have never met a more quiet spirited man than Gregg in my life. He was a terrific person and loved by many many people. Above the clouds--
beyond the stars
his soul flies free
unshackled from the earth.
In joyous ecstasy is now complete
the journey made since birth!
The angels sing a welcome
an ancient melody and now at peace..
at home at last his soul is finally free!

I am seriously and deeply troubled by the passing of Gregg; he came up with a great idea for SOS and he implemented better than anyone. He was always a great supporter of me relative to my ideas, guitar playing, and self-defense teaching. He is truly a GREAT LOSS for SOS, for his loved ones, and his many friends, especially me! I am too in shock to truly express my feelings right now. I know that a group of us were at a party hosted by Majorie Jacobs and we prayed for him just last week. For me, this is traumatic and a great shock. Of the many, many things that stood out about him and made Gregg so GREAT, was his Charisma! Now he is with GOD! I knew him for over 24 years on Earth; I'm sure I'll meet him again in Heaven! - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/guestbooks/timesunion-albany/gregg-b-millett-condolences/180905979?cid=full#sthash.2mvQRebq.dpuf
