Hal Waltzman Obituary

Waltzman, Hal ALBANY Hal Waltzman, 87, of Oakwood Street in Albany, died Friday, December 7, 2007 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. Mr. Waltzman was born in 1920 in New York City and was raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, and achieved the rank of corporal. He graduated from Drake University with a degree in accounting, and worked as a personnel examiner for the Civil Service Department of the State of New York, retiring in 1991. In retirement, he worked as a literacy volunteer and tutored English as a second language. He was an avid reader and an eloquent writer. He was a member of Congregation Ohav Shalom in Albany, the Independent Benevolent Society, Temple Lodge, and was past commander of Jewish War Veterans Post #105. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Edith Matelson Waltzman; his loving daughter, Julie Waltzman Pollack; his devoted son-in-law, Barry Michael Pollack, whom he regarded as a son; his cherished granddaugh- ter, Elena Michelle Pollack; two sisters, Muriel Judkowitz of Pembroke Pines, Fla. and Ruth Ratowsky of Brooklyn; several nieces and nephews. Services at Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue, Albany on Sunday, December 9 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Independent Benevolent Cemetery in Guilderland, N.Y. Shiva will be observed throughout the week at the home of Julie, Barry and Elena Pollack, with services on Sunday at 7:30 p.m., Monday and Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. and Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Ohav Shalom, New Krumkill Road, Albany, NY 12208 or Bet Shraga Hebrew Academy, 54 Sand Creek Road, Albany NY 12205 or to a charity of one's choice.

To The Family,
I worked with Mr. Waltzman at Civil Service where I started in 1965 and retired in 2004 from the Examination Division. He was a gentleman and a pleasure to work for. My sympathy to the family.
