Hannah Levine Obituary

Levine, Hannah Birman ALBANY Hannah Birman Levine, age 97 of Albany, died on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at her residence in the company of her loving family. Born in Peekskill, N.Y., Hannah was the daughter of the late Isadore and Rose Margolis Birman. Hannah was married to Milton J. Levine until his passing in 1998 from Alzheimer's. Hannah was employed for many years as a saleslady at Denby's in Troy, and later returned to the retail sales world in 1966, after staying at home to help raise their son Ron. In spite of Milt saying you will never get hired, she proved him wrong and helped open the Sears in Colonie Center and worked in the children's department until her retirement in 2015. She was a member of Congregation Ohav Shalom in Albany, and had been an active member of the Sisterhood Gift Shop and Bingo in the '60s and '70s and most recently was a member of Abigail. Hannah loved to travel and play mahjong. After Milt's death, she traveled with Ron and Melissa to Hawaii, Florida, California and Niagara Falls. She was the loving mother of Ron Levine and his wife Melissa; and a wonderful grandmother to their furkids through the years. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Morris and Sol Birman, her sister Gertrude Bickweat and her three granddogs. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Melissa and her granddog Remmy; her sister Pearl Katz and sister-in-law Gitte Birman; as well as several generations of nieces and nephews. A tremendous thank you goes out to her hospice nurse Kelly, and all of the aides who helped her on her final journey. A special thank you goes out to Linda and Rich Huba, as well as her niece Tobi and grandniece Stephanie. Services at Congregation Ohav Shalom, 113 New Krumkill Road, Albany on Thursday, September 27, at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in the Ohav Shalom Cemetery on Church Road in Guilderland. Memorial contributions may be made to The Community Hospice, 310 S. Manning Blvd, Albany, NY, 12208 or to New Jersey Schnauzer Rescue Network Inc (njsrn.org) P.O. Box 36, Fanwood, NJ, 07023.

Ron, I had the privilege of getting to know your mother when your father was at Daughters of Sarah and she attended the Alzheimer's support group I facilitated at Teresian House. She always showed so much grace and strength and was a fierce advocate for your father. She helped so many others in the group by sharing her experiences and wisdom that I often thought she gave much more than she got out of those meetings! She spoke of you with great pride - you were her rock. Please accept my condolences on the passing of such a great lady.
