Harry A. Chesky

Chesky, Harry A. SCHENECTADY Harry A. Chesky, 90, died on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at Northwood at Rosewood Gardens Nursing Home in East Greenbush. Born on May 23, 1918 in Watervliet, N.Y., he was the son of the late Joseph and Amelia Choromanski Chesky. Harry served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in Australia, New Guinea and was in the Invasion of Luzon in the Philippines. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Medal, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon and the Bronze Star Medal during his service time. He was honorably discharged from the service in 1945. Harry was employed as a printer for 30 years at Williams Press in Menands before retiring in 1975. He then worked for General Electric in Schenectady as a machinist helper for eight years before he again retired in 1983. He was a member of the American Legion Post 21 in Schenectady where he served as chaplain. Survivors include his son, Robert H. (Deborah) Chesky of Niskayuna; his grandchildren, Brian Chesky of San Francisco and Allison Chesky of New York City; his siblings, Helen Chesky of Watervliet and William Chesky of Glenville; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Wanda Whited and his brother, Zygmunt Chesky. Funeral services will be on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway in Watervliet. Burial with full military honors will follow in Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. Relatives and friends may call on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 85 Watervliet Avenue, Albany, NY 12206 in memory of Harry A. Chesky.
