Helen Johnson Obituary

Johnson, Helen C. GUILDERLAND Helen C. Johnson, 96, died peacefully at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland on Tuesday, September 23, 2008. Helen was born March 3, 1912, in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of the late John S. and Elizabeth Randall Renton. At the age of 18, she relocated to Boston, Mass. where she became a registered nurse, retiring from Massachusetts General Hospital in 1977. She married William Johnson in 1936 and became a widow in 1977. Helen was a 25-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star in the Boston area. She moved to Guilderland in 1988 where she was a member of the Hamilton Union Presbyterian Church, the International Club and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. She is survived by two daughters, Virginia (Frank) Cook of Fla. and Bettye (Wayne) Goodnow of Guilderland; one sister, Gwendolyn Paschall of Fla.; one brother, Donald Renton of Nova Scotia; four grandchildren, Patrice (Eric) Beebe, Chris (Caroline Carwood) Goodnow, Susan (Ming) Goodnow-Ji and Fred Goodnow; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters and two brothers. At Helen's request, her body was donated to the Albany Medical College Anatomical Gift Program. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Helen's name may be made to the Guilderland Food Pantry, 2291 Western Ave., Guilderland, NY 12084 or the Guilderland Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 339, Guilderland, NY 12084.
