WHITING, N.J. - James E. "Jim" Curran, of Whiting, N.J., passed away peacefully on July 30, 2025, at the age of 91. James was born in New York City, N.Y., on November 15, 1933, to the late Edward and Anis Curran. Brother to the late Joseph Curran; sister, Mary Curran; and devoted husband of 55 years of the late Mary Curran. James was the loving stepfather to Dominick T. Polchinski, Annamarie G. Sohnen and the late Stanley P. Polchinski; grandfather to Christine Polchinski, Jeanne Evich, Rachel E. Sohnen, and Michael H. Sohnen; and great-grandfather to Micah Evich.
James was a licensed Shipping Customs Broker for Freedman & Slater Inc of N.Y.C. James relocated to their Albany, N.Y., office on 50 State St., where he worked for approximately 20 years, before opening his own agency in Albany, James E. Curran Inc., Custom Brokerage Vessel Agency, for Hudson River, and N.Y. Harbor. James was dedicated to his work in the import-export business at the Port of Albany and Hudson River. He very much enjoyed working with ships' captains from all over the world, who always had their stories to entertain James as he aided them in their business of trade. James was known for his unselfish generosity, and kindness towards his family, and friends. James and Mary shared many happy years traveling together, enjoying the company of friends along the way. We will forever miss them.
