Dear Family & Friends:
Thank you for your condolences and kind words. I also appreciate those who were able to attend Dad's funeral service and memorial luncheon. The contingent from the American Legion and Albany Region Military Forces Honor Guard performed admirably in paying respect to Dad as an Army veteran who served almost 4 years during WWII. The presenting of the American flag with TAPS playing was a very touching tribute that will not be forgotten.
For those of you who may not know, Dad left his farm on Route 9J in East Greenbush, NY shortly after his son Phil and wife Eleanor passed away. He moved to NH to live with my wife Karen and me up until we all moved to Venice, FL in March 2004. He lived the final years of his life as a resident of an assisted living facility (ALF) in Venice where he met new friends and participated actively in social events. He knew many of the ALF employees and residents on a first name basis and was well liked. This is no surprise as Dad was a very outgoing, likable and generous guy. He had a certain charm about himself that enabled him to warm up to people.
Karen, our dog Teddy, and I visited Dad often, as he lived only a few miles from our home. We would take drives together to explore the local area and visit his friends in FL. We dined at many of the local restaurants and even went boating several times in and near the Gulf of Mexico. Dad also had many family members and friends visit him. This closeness gave me an opportunity to get to know him better than I would have otherwise. I felt we bonded more during his final years than we had all the previous years combined.
Dad turned 88 years old this past October 5th. He was the last of his generation, surviving his eight brothers and sisters. He lived a good life and was a good man. I have many fond memories that I will cherish forever and which will help ease the pain of his passing. Although we will all miss him, we take comfort in knowing he is in a better place surrounded by loved ones.

Jimmy
I'm sorry to hear of the passing of your dad. He was very special and instrumental during my formative years when I worked at the Southern Fruit Garden with your uncles [Nick and Phil], with him and with you - back in the late sixties/early seventies.
Sorry I will not be able to attend the funeral services as I'm going out of town.
You will be in my prayers and may God bless you.
