SCHENECTADY - James "Jim" P. Gersbach, 88, passed away August 17, 2025, at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center, Schenectady.
Born in Clifton Springs, N.Y., on June 28, 1937, he was the son of James E. and Helen (Gilligan) Gersbach. Jim earned his bachelor's degree from Union College, and master's from Syracuse University. Jim worked for the N.Y.S. Dept. of Taxation & Finance until his retirement. He was a proud member of the ADK Mountain Club. Jim enjoyed fishing and traveling around the US, often on bus trips. He loved the N.Y. Giants, and in the spring, he found his way to Fla., to take in baseball spring training.
Jim was survived by his sisters, Catherine "Kay" Corey and Mary (Robert) Brand; also by eight nieces and nephews, Emily Sequeira, Nellie (Geoff) Williams, Katie (Jason Greco) Nare, Bruce (Linda) Corey, Bridget Corey, Susan (Gernot) Rorhl, Jennifer (John) Haggerty and Andrew (Katie) Corey.
The family would like to thank The Community Hospice, as well as the staff at Kingsway Arms, in particular Theresa and Dr. Donahue, for their compassion and care for Jim.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, starting at 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., at St. Joseph's Church, 231 Second St., Scotia, N.Y. 12302, followed immediately by a Mass of Christian Burial, at 11 a.m. Interment will be Friday, at 11 a.m., with a graveside service at Most Holy Redeemer, Niskayuna.
