James Maloy Obituary

LOUDONVILLE James H. Maloy, 81, of Loudonville, died Friday, February 7, 2003 at Samaritan Hospital, Troy. He was the son of the late Emma Flavin Maloy, who passed away when he was four years old and the late James H. Maloy Sr. He was the stepson of the late Margaret MacLucas Maloy. Jim grew up on Albany-Shaker Road in Loudonville, graduating from Christian Brothers Academy and Siena College, entering the Army in 1942. He was past president and treasurer of James H. Maloy, Inc., a construction firm in Loudonville and served as postmaster of West Albany under President Harry Truman. Jim was married for 50 years to Ruth Dugan Maloy of Troy. Together they raised four children. Jim's greatest dedication was to his family. Quoting one of his friends, he spent more time with his family than with any other group of people. Jim was a member of the Fort Orange Club where he served as a trustee from 1979 to 1986. He was also a former member of Wolfert's Roost and Schuyler Meadows Country Clubs. Over the years, he was a member of the Motor Truck Association, the Association of General Contractors, the Knights of Columbus, the Knights of Malta and a past president of the Albany Sons of St. Patrick. A founding member of the St. Anne Institute Foundation, he was honored by the St. Anne community for his many years of service at a tribute hosted by Tony Randall where he was presented with first James H. Maloy Humanitarian Award. Quoting Nancy Barrett's newspaper column following that tribute: If the old adage that the worth of a person's life shows in the quality of his friends, Jim Maloy is indeed a wealthy man .... Jim has made his mark on many boards in the area: Lansingburgh Boys and Girls Club, LaSalle Institute, Seton Child Development Center, Catholic Family Services, the Sisters of St. Joseph, Masterson Child Development Center, United Way, Teresian House, Maria College, St. Agnes School, the Doane Stuart School and St. Agnes Cemetery. At the time of his death, he was chairman of the St. Anne Institute Foundation Board. Jim never said no to a cause and he never said no to anyone in need. His spirit will live on in the lives of those he touched, especially his wife, Ruth; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and John Walsh of Menands and Jennifer and Anthony Keogh of White Plains, N.Y.; and sons, James and William of Loudonville. He will be especially missed by his four grandchildren, Alison and James Gregory Walsh of Menands and Carolyn and Christopher James Keogh of White Plains. He was the brother of John E. Maloy and Grace (Gordon) Wimmer of Loudonville and the late Ruth (Samuel) Benson of Floral Park, N.Y.; he was the cousin of Mary Jo Meade Wallace of Rancho Mirage, Calif. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Walter J. Dugan of Salt Lake City, Utah and Raymond Dugan of Clifton Park; as well as many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral Tuesday, February 11 at 10:30 a.m. from the Tebbutt Funeral Home, 633 Central Avenue, Albany and 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, Crumitie Road, Loudonville where a Mass of Christian Death and Burial will be celebrated. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Troy, N.Y. Those wishing to remember Jim in special way may send contributions to one of his favorite charities or to the charity of their choice. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses, staff and volunteers of the Heart Clinic at Memorial Hospital and to the nurses and staff of Samaritan Hospital Emergency Room and Intensive and Cardiac Care Units as well as the Colonie EMS. Your care and dedication meant so much to all of us.
