I met Jim and his family many years ago when we lived next door to them in Albany. I later met his parents and grandfather. He was a very nice guy and I´m glad he had such a wonderful family that he loved and who loved him so much.

Never met Jim. I did hear many good things about him from my neighbor Bill Thornton. Bill thought highly of him and felt he could retire knowing the business would be in good hands. And he was right.

I remember when I was a child my grandparents used to take us there. I remember seeing a very young Jim who wasn't even a teenager working there. He was a wonderful person. RIP Jim you will be missed dearly.

I grew up in St. James Parish in Albany, NY, a number of blocks from the Sheldon family. I used to play basketball with Jim's brother, Mike, down at Hoffman Park on summer nights. Mike was a standout hooper from CBA and it's at that park I met his brother and sister, Jim and Linda. Bill's Tastee Freeze was always the place my friends and I went and I remember well when Jim and his first wife both worked there as teenagers.
Years later I would bring my wife and two daughters there and introduced them to Jim. My wife once told me she hated hot dogs. I told her it was because she never had one from Jim's Tastee Freeze. To this day it's the only hot dog my wife and daughters will eat, usually paired with a Boston Shake, malted, of course.
My mother and sisters were also frequent visitors and in late summer of 2006 i brought my mother and baby sister, Anne, out Tastee Freeze for a hotdog and ice cream. My sister was at the end of her life; having battled breast cancer for 12 years, it was clear it was a fight she would soon lose. Anne loved Jim's coffee shakes, so we ordered up. When it came time to pay, Jim waved me off and said it was on the house. He knew he probably wouldn't see her again. He came out and sat with us while we ate our dogs and shakes, said his goodbyes and went back to work. Anne died a couple of weeks later.
It seems like a small gesture but 14 years later and I still remember the kindness he extended to my sister everytime we stop by Jim's Tastee Freeze. He was a good man with a big heart and a kind soul. He will be missed. God bless Jim and his family.

Deepest sympathy to the entire Sheldon family on Jim´s passing. His laugh, life lessons, and generosity will be how he is remembered by so many. And for me personally, listening to baseball games on the radio at Tastee Freez a million years ago. Sending healing wishes to all of you and hoping you can find peace and happy memories when sadness seems overwhelming. Hugs from afar - Maria, Michelle, Joe, Mia and Nancy
