James Squadere Obituary

Squadere, James D.
COLONIE - James D. Squadere, 80 of Colonie, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
Jim was born on March 7, 1942, in Troy and was the son of the late Nicholas and Anna Squadere. Jim graduated from LaSalle High School in Troy, class of 1960. He then attended Hudson Valley Community College and later obtained his bachelor's degree from Russell Sage College. Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1963 through 1965.
Jim then began his career with Adirondack Steel and Consolidated foundries until 1983. His years of experience in the steel industry enabled him to start his own business as a manufacturer's representative. He successfully owned and operated L&D Associates, an international metals business for 38 years, traveling all over the world. Jim developed business partnerships that evolved into personal friendships. If you were a business partner or customer, you were a personal friend. From his principals in the U.S.A., Canada, England, Scotland, Germany, Italy, Spain, and India, to some of his largest customers G.E., Westinghouse, Exon Mobil and Flo Serv he delivered the parts that powered the world. Jim's tag lines for his business were "Two-Thirds of the world is covered by water, the rest by us" and "All metals for all industries."
Jim enjoyed golfing with his friends here in New York and at his place in Sarasota, Fla. He cherished his time with his late brother-in-law, Dr. Andrew Wood where they golfed together for 44 years in the Member Guest Tournament at Albany Country Club. He also supported the Colonie Dare and Ciao Tournaments each year with his dear friend and cousin, Michael J. Hoblock and many others. If Jim was not working, he could be found visiting with friends at Dee Dee's, a tavern in Latham.
He was the beloved husband of 57 years of Beverly (Wood) Squadere. Jim was the devoted father of Lisa S. Squadere and Denise M. (Christopher) Deso. He was the brother of Francis "Bob" Squadere and Lawrence (Linda) Squadere. Jim was the brother-in-law of John (Suzan) Wood, Mary Gay Wood and Patricia Wood. He was the much-loved Poppi of James, Christina, Joseph and Gianna. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jim was predeceased by his parents and brothers, William (Terry) Squadere and Nicholas (Lil) Squadere; his sister-in-law, Donna Squadere; and niece, Karen (Squadere) Gureckis.
Jim's family would like to thank his longtime friend and primary care physician, Dr. Gerald Hausler (Center for Family Practice), the wonderful staff at Community Hospice of Albany, and Attentive Care for their kind and compassionate care.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Jim's family on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave., Colonie. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Clare's Church, 1947 Central Ave., Colonie. The funeral Mass will be livestreamed at www.youtube.com/@churchofsaintclare-colonie8919. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.

It was with much sadness when I learned of Jim's passing. Jim was 8 years older than me and our first interaction began when I was a junior bowler at Latham Bowl and Jim worked on the desk. Later on when we "grew up" I joined the Sunday night semi classic league in which Jim was the president, where we bowled for probably the next 25 years. He also started a twice a month mixed league in which my wife Kathy and I were in and had a great time, mostly due to Jim's penchant for making everything fun with his great personality.
As I was out of state when Jim passed, I watched his service online and saw Lisa's eulogy. It reminded me also of the golf tournaments for autism I participated in, where it seemed all of Latham was also there in support of the cause.
Jim was one of a kind and his keen sense of humor will be remembered by everyone who came in contact with him.
My deepest condolences to Bev, Lisa, Denise and the rest of the family. You will be missed , my friend. Latham has lost a legend. May you rest in peace.

My cousin Jim Squadere was a wonderful, caring, and generous man for all his life. He was forever loyal and supportive to his immediate family as well as his extended family of brothers, cousins, and their families. He was always there to provide financial or moral support to his family members. These fine attributes also extended to his friends and business associates. L&D Associates was not only a business but was an extended family created by Jim Squadere. The depth of this loss will be felt by many.

We will miss him but as time passes, we will still have the fond memories of this man and his achievements.
God bless you, Jim. You will certainly be missed.

I am so sorry to hear about Jim. I was Dr Hausler's nurse for many years and had the privilege of getting to know Jim quite well. He always made me laugh. My condolences to his family and friends. Colleen

Lisa and family, I heard just last week that something was going on with Jim. Just to see it in the paper today hit me like a cinder block. What a great man. Donna and I will cherish the past including the tons of laughs we had with him.
