Jane Karlan Obituary

Karlan, Jane Hillary
GLENVILLE - We are both joyful and sorrowful as we say goodbye to Jane Hillary Karlan, who passed away on September 2, 2025. We are joyful knowing she is at peace in heaven, but sorrowful that she is no longer here to share the life she loved.
Jane was born on April 10, 1943, in Schenectady, N.Y., the beloved daughter of Joseph W. Karlan and Florence M. Oldendorf Karlan. At the age of eight, she became a resident of Rome State School, and after its closure, she lived in residential homes where she was surrounded by caring and supportive staff.
Jane was known for her warm smile, her love of being around others, and her appreciation for the simple joys of life. She especially enjoyed puzzles, proudly displaying many completed ones on the walls of her home. She also found happiness in listening to music, celebrating holidays, and sharing laughter with family and friends.
She is survived by her sisters, Margaret OConnor (Thomas) of Voorheesville and Christine Yeandle of Guilderland; her nieces and nephew, Cathleen Walkling (Jim), Kevin O'Connor (Kara), Margaret "Meg" O'Connor and Erin Adams (Ben); and eight grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her parents.
Her family is deeply grateful to the caregivers and staff who enriched Jane's life with kindness and compassion over the years.
Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Rotterdam, N.Y. Burial services will be private, for the family.
Jane lived a long and happy life, even in the face of challenges, and she will be remembered for the joy and love she brought to all who knew her. May she rest in peace.
