Janet Hans Obituary

Hans, Janet E.
ALBANY - Janet E. Hans, 94, entered eternal life on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Teresian House.
Born in Cohoes, she was the daughter of the late John L. and Jane Smith English. Janet graduated from the Academy of the Holy Names and Marymount College. She was employed as a social worker at Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany. After raising her five children, she accepted a position as activities director when Teresian House opened its doors in 1974. She later became the director of Community Affairs and Volunteers. Janet retired at the age of 85 after 40 years of devoted service. She valued her time at Teresian House and loved working with the elderly. Janet was a member of the Board of Directors of St. Patrick's School in Troy, a founding board member of Ladies of Charity of Albany, a board member of the Carmelite Sister for the Aged and Infirm, and a founding board member of Teresian House Foundation.
Janet enjoyed summers at Lake George, skiing at Gore Mountain, and lounging by the pool. But most of all Janet cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a lover of life. Her favorite holidays in this order were: Halloween, April Fool's Day, and St. Patrick's Day. Those who knew her well would cautiously anticipate April Fool's Day, or a scare on Halloween but always looked forward to her Irish Brough on St. Patrick's Day.
Janet was the wife of the late John J. Hans Jr.; mother of John "Jay" Hans (Cathy), Jane Wasserbach (Bill), James P. Hans (Kim), Joanne Chmura, and Janet McCutchen (Jeff); beloved grandmother of Kaitlin Conway (Bill), John Hans (Jillian), Kelly Mitchell (Bobby), Sarah Hans, Kate Moore (Travis), Billy Wasserbach, Jack McCutchen, and Jenna McCutchen; and sister of the late John T. English. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Cathy Hans, and the loving staff of Mount Carmel that cared for Janet, especially Kelsey (Pam), Devon, Olivia, Larry and Sam.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Janet's family on Tuesday, March 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen St., Albany. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only. To the Hans family,
Janet was the best I leader have known throughout my life, when she was my boss at Teresian House in 1975. I left to pursue my teaching career, but I never forgot her and visited her at Teresian House 30 years later to tell her about the positive impression her kindness had made on me.
