WATERVLIET - Janice Louise Wheatley died of pancreatic cancer in hospice, at her daughter Maria's house, on August 22, 2025. She was born June 14, 1952, the daughter of the late Emma Louise Wheatley. Her siblings were Dennis Wheatley (deceased), Donald Wheatley (Deceased), Sharon Luckey (Deceased), Joann Dickinson, Lynn Skelly, Gale Chevalier, Dale Wheatley, and Ronald Wheatley (deceased).
She is survived by her son, Vincent Ferrara; her daughter, Maria Ferrara-Chavasse; her partner, James Ferrara; son-in-law, Aidan Chavasse; grandchildren, Jason Ferrara, Natalya Ferrara-Chavasse and Nalayna Ferrara-Chavasse; and by her dear friends, Mary Ann Seney-Burniche and Mary Pobran.
Janice graduated from Watervliet High School in 1970, and enjoyed dancing and roller skating at Guptill's. She worked 28 years as a government servant, eight at the Department of Veterans Affairs, and 20 at the Watervliet Arsenal, where she was well known and loved. In her later years, she enjoyed walking, spending time with her grandchildren, and holidays with the family. She loved her cats, Siggy, Tubby, and CeCe.
In a statement for her coworkers, she said, "I cherished the friendships I made with the Production Planning team. They were more than just coworkers; they were a second family, and I thank them for everything. Their kindness and generosity meant the world."
She was loved by everyone and we, her family, miss her dearly. Her children and her grandchildren were her world, and she always spent time with them, ate with them, took her granddaughters out, and spent the holidays with them. She will never be forgotten by her family, may her memory be eternal.
A funeral service will be held at 8 p.m., on Friday, September 5, 2025 at Parker Bros. Memorial Funeral Home, Watervliet. All are invited to visit with Janice's family before the service, from 6 to 8 p.m. Janice's memorial page can be found at parkerbrosmemorial.com
Farewell Dear Mother
Somewhere in my heart beneath all my grief and pain, Is a smile I still wear at the sound of your dear name. The precious word is Mother', she was my world you see, But now my heart is breaking cause she's no longer here with me. God chose her for His angel to watch me from above, To guide me and advise me and know that I'm still loved.
The day she had to leave me when her life on earth was through, God had better plans for her, for this, I surely knew. When I think of her kind heart and all those loving years, My memories surround me and I can't hold back the tears. She truly was my best friend, someone I could confide in, She always had a tender touch and a warm and gentle grin.
I want to thank you Mother for teaching me so well, And though the time has come that I must bid you this farewell. I'll remember all you've taught me and make you proud you'll see. Thank you my Dear Mother for all the love you showed me. Although you've left this earth and now you've taken flight, I know that you are here with me each morning, noon and night.
