Jean O'Donnell Obituary
RENSSELAER - Jean M. O'Donnell, 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, October 14, 2023.
A devout Catholic, Jean was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph in Rensselaer. She was a 1950 graduate of St. Peter's Hospital School of Nursing. Jean was a registered nurse at St. Peter's Hospital for over four decades. Jean enjoyed traveling throughout her lifetime including her countless visits to Ireland and Cape Cod.
Jean was predeceased by her parents, Anna and James O'Donnell; and siblings, Elinor Connell and James "Bud" O'Donnell. She is survived by her beloved sister, Ann Ryan, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 20, at 10:30 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph Church, 50 Herrick St., Rensselaer with burial to follow in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the W.J. Lyons, Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Ave., Rensselaer on Thursday from 4 - 7 p.m.

I had the honor to meet Jean and learn from her while I was in high school & nursing school. She had such a kind, compassionate manner. My Mom & Grandmother remembered her from 3rd Avenue ... I was proud to recognize her service while talking with Ann on behalf of the Nurse Honor Guard Capital Region. God bless Jean.

I am so sorry to learn of the loss of Jean. I have many memories of Jean as a small child on Third Ave. As the years passed, I have vivid memories of the compassionate care she gave my mom during her last days in the emergency room at St.
Peter´s Hospital.
She was a woman of great faith, and I will miss her gentle presence.

Dear Ann and Family,
My Sincere sympathy to ALL in the great loss of Jean. A "pillar of the Church" indeed. A woman of Faith and Love. Jean never wore her faith on her shirt sleeves, but LIVED in every moment of her life by reaching out to all. She always was there for everyone: caring, giving, understanding, concerned, supporting, and loving. Truly of woman of great faith. She enriched everyone she new, and each person grew because of her great influence and love. She will indeed be missed- but she will always be a presence in our lives.
