Jeanette Sharp Obituary

Sharp, Jeanette, Ph.D.
SEATTLE, WASH. - Jeanette Poppa Sharp, Ph.D., 79, died peacefully on March 19, 2024, in Seattle, Wash., where she resided the past four years, after having lived in Albany and Brooklyn most of her life.
Jeanette is survived by her three children, Peter, Christopher and Jennifer; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and her sister, Geraldine. She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Robert D. Sharp.
Jeanette was born in Queens, N.Y., to Josif and Victoria Poppa. She developed macular degeneration at an early age, which eventually progressed to complete blindness. Despite this hurdle, she earned her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from SUNY Albany. She worked at Albany Medical Center, and held a private practice until her retirement in 2018.
She enjoyed being a member of the choir of Trinity United Methodist Church.
She will always be remembered as a thoughtful, loving wife and mother who valued, above all, family, education and hard work. She prided herself on helping her patients overcome mental health issues.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Those wishing to remember Jeanette in a special way may donate to The Seeing Eye, Inc., P.O. Box 375, Morristown, N.J. 07963.

I was extremely fortunate to be treated by Dr. Jeanette. She was quite gifted as a clinician, her ability to draw together several 'life threads' of mine at session's end, continues to amaze me. In doing so she seemed to magically blend the science and art of practice in an artistically memorable way. I will always remember her with love and gratitude; she is ever in my heart. Her kindness and generosity will remain with me and though it has been 20 years since, her guidance is still with me.

Dr. Sharp was a compassionate and brilliant clinician. She brought peace and dignity to many who lost theirs for a short time. My sincere condolences to her family. May the memories be a source of loving comfort during this difficult time.

My condolences to Jeanette's family and friends. I was very pleased to be her pastor at Trinity Church in Albany for 13 years. During the last few years she lived in Albany, it was my pleasure to pick her up for Sunday Services. She and her guide dog Meyer were good company for the drive in and beloved members of our congregation and community. Blessings and peace in this time of loss.
