Joan Murray Obituary

Murray, Joan ALBANY Joan Murray, 68 of Albany, died on August 1, 2022, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Joan was born in Albany, the daughter of John L. and Loretta T. Murray. She graduated from Marylrose Academy in 1971 and D'youville College in 1975. She earned her master's degree from The College of Saint Rose. She was employed by Bethlehem Central Schools for many years as a special education teacher. Her students felt what everyone feels around Joan - valued, welcomed and appreciated. She will be missed by her husband, Bill Bailey; her daughters, Kelly (Derek) Cerza, Katey (Tony) Brown, Kimberly (Christopher) Maiello and Kristin (Marc) Keneally; her father, John L. Murray; and her sister, Nancy (Jack) Siedlecki. She is also survived by ten wonderful grandchildren, Madelyn, Hayley and Greta Cerza, Sullivan and Emmett Brown, Vanessa, James and Giovanni Maiello and Rita and Oscar Keneally and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joan was always active - the life of the party. She welcomed everyone into her home and had a contagious smile. She was an avid skier and swimmer and spent hours in her beautiful garden growing vegetables for the whole neighborhood. In retirement, she also volunteered for the garden of the parish of Mater Christi in Albany. Funeral services on Friday, August 5, at 1 p.m. in the Parish of Mater Christi, Albany, where her funeral Mass will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal will be held in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands, immediately following the Mass. Those wishing to remember Joan in a special way may make contributions in her name to Lustgarten Foundation Pancreatic Cancer Research, 415 Crossways Park Drive, Suite D, Woodbury, NY, 11797. I had the pleasure of knowing Joan for over 32+years through our children, PTA events, and working in the BCSD. She was an amazingly positive person. Always a joy to be around. I was so very sad to hear of her passing. A loss for so many, but especially for her family whom she valued and loved greatly. Watch over your family & us sweet lady. Fly high with the angels for you are surely one of them. RIP my friend.

May God Bless you Joan, and carry all those who love you in the palm of Your Hand during this difficult time.

Our lives were infinitely richer for knowing Joan. She was the most amazing teacher, encourager, uplifter, and supporter to our son Anthony and to all of us! Anthony's years in Joan's class, C100, were undoubtedly the best years of his life. Joan made each and every student (and parent) feel loved, included, accepted, cherished, and heard. For sure, Heaven has gained the most beautiful, loving, giving, and caring angel. We will LOVE you forever Joan!

Sending all our love and prayers, Debbi, Joe and Anthony Badolato
