MARLBORO - Joan Marie Flanagan Presler of Marlboro, N.Y., passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at the age of 95. Joan was born on October 18, 1929, in Beacon, N.Y. She was the only child of the late William Francis Flanagan and Catherine Margaret Komornick Flanagan. Joan grew up in Beacon.
She graduated from Beacon High School. She graduated from The Central Academy of Beauty Culture in Newburgh, N.Y. In 1948, she met the love of her life, Bard Raymond Presler, at a picnic. Bard and Joan married in November 1950, and Joan moved to Marlboro. She was the daughter-in-law of the late Raymond Presler and Estelle "Stella" Cassels Presler. Bard and Joan had been married for 53 years at the time of his passing in 2003. Joan owned Joan Marie's Beauty Shoppe in Marlboro, before becoming a fulltime stay-at-home mother.
Joan is survived by two daughters, Ember Barda Presler of Marlboro and April Gail (Joseph) Certoma of North Carolina. Her only son, Bard Dale Presler, passed in October 2023. She has two grandsons, Brendon and Barrett Certoma both of North Carolina.
Family was everything to Joan. She enjoyed spending time with family and close friends. Joan was a life member of the Marlboro Yacht Club, having been a member for 75 years. She was a member of the Harris Bay Yacht Club on Lake George, N.Y., for 39 years. Her suitcase was always packed and ready to go for a weekend trip to Lake George, a road trip, or a cruise. She traveled extensively around the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean. Her honeymoon trip to Bermuda sparked her love of travel and she visited there many times. She liked going into Manhattan to see Broadway plays, to shop and have lunch.
Besides cooking and baking she liked to do various craft projects including knitting and embroidery. She did word search puzzles daily. She was an eagle and bird watcher. Everyone who knew Joan knows she looked forward to shopping trips to Adams and Boscovs.
Calling hours will be held at the DiDonato Funeral Home, 1290 Rt. 9 W. Marlboro, N.Y., on Friday, May 2, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Entombment to follow at The Cedar Hill Mausoleum, Middlehope, N.Y.
