GREEN ISLAND - Joan A. (Luce) Skiba, 87, passed peacefully from this life, on November 5, 2025.
Joan was born in Troy, N.Y., to parents, Joseph and Bessie (Wright) Luce. She was raised and educated in Watervliet, with her four siblings, and resided for most of her life. A graduate of Watervliet High School, Joan soon after married the love of her life, John R. Skiba Sr., and together they created a wonderful life together. Joan was a devoted wife and mother, raising her five children and tending to her home. John passed away unexpectedly in 1987 at the age of 54, leaving Joan to carry on caring for and guiding her family. As the years passed, Joan was blessed with the gifts of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, which filled her heart with pride. She was able to blend her role as matriarch of a loving and growing family with the enjoyment she received from playing Bingo, visiting casinos and spending time on her computer. In later years she found pleasure in flying and traveling. Devout in her Christian faith, Joan loved her family and friends and will be missed by everyone whose life she touched.
She was the loving mother of Judith Molnar (late Joseph), Donna Surprenant, Robert (Karyn) Skiba, Joan Skiba; and the late John R. Skiba Jr.; cherished grandmother to 13 grandchildren; and adoring great-grandmother to six great-grandchildren. Joan is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and shared a special relationship with Patti, Danny and Jimmy DeCrescenzo.
Joan's funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at 10 a.m., in the Parker Bros. Memorial, Watervliet, and interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Colonie. Friends are invited to attend, and may also visit on Monday, November 10, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
