Joan Wiener Obituary
COLONIE -
Joan A. Wiener, 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the Eddy Village Green at the Beverwyck on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Dewey and Henrietta Lenge. Joan was predeceased by her husband, Ferdinand P. Wiener.
Joan and her husband were very active in the Catholic Church. They met through the Catholic Young Adult League in Albany. Together they helped create the "Family Education Program" at Our Lady of Mercy Church. Joan sang and played percussion instruments, was a Eucharistic minister, would bring communion to the homebound, and crocheted prayer shawls that were given out to members of the church in need at Our Lady of Mercy and Christ Our Light Churches. She was also a Mercy Associate and a member of the Catholic Daughters. Joan sang in many community choirs including Festival Choir. She participated in the block rosary group in her neighborhood. Joan worked with Father Peyton for Family Rosary for many years. Joan worked for NYS as a secretary. She was also a scout leader and was an active volunteer in the Forest Park School. Joan was always physically and spiritually active and loved swimming. Above all she was a proud and loving wife, mother and grandmother, and now is waltzing again with Dad.
Joan is survived by her children, Claire Maguire (Richard), Ferdinand J. Wiener (Bonnie), Gerard Wiener (Scott Riddle), Joanne Kelly (Keith), Mary Wiener and Christine Morgan (Timothy). She was the loving "MiMi" and "Meema" to Patrick and Sarah Maguire, Christopher Joseph "CJ" Wiener, Rebecca Ayala (Joshua), Brendan Kelly and Kathryn Russell (Connor), Samantha and Katie Morgan. She is also survived by her two great-granddaughters.
In addition to her husband, Joan was predeceased by her brother, Dewey Lenge (Shirley) and Robert Lenge (Ann).
The family would like to give a special thanks to all the staff of the Eddy Village Green at the Beverwyck for the love and care given to Joan and her family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of the American Diabetes Association in Joan's name.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2024, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, N.Y. 12205. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 15, 2024 at 10 a.m., at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 1 Maria Dr., Albany, N.Y. 12211. Burial will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery.

Thank you for all the Our Lady of Mercy memories, the Great Wassil parties at your house, and all the fun times we had together! You loved your mother, right to heaven's door into the arms of Jesus, And she and your dad will be waiting for you to welcome you one day.

I want to extend my deepest sympathy to all of Joan's family and friends. I was blessed to know Joan and her family for many years, first as neighbors, and then as members of the folk group at Our Lady of Mercy church. I will always remember Joan's love, grace, and kindness to me and my family, and to everyone she met. For Joan, the "joy of the Lord was her strength". The Holy Spirit flowed through Joan in beautiful ways, as shown in her love for God, her family and friends, and in her care for others. I am sure that Joan is rejoicing even now, in heaven, reunited with Fred, and so many who have gone before her. I thank God for Joan's life, her family, and her faith. I believe that the Lord Jesus has already welcomed Joan into heaven with open arms, as she delights in the presence of "Christ Our Light".
