John Antokol Obituary

Antokol, John Pace GLENVILLE John Pace Antokol, 40, beloved son of Judith Pace Antokol and Richard M. Antokol, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, September 14, 2013. John was born in Niskayuna and was among the last graduating class of the former Linton High School. He attended Carlton College in Minnesota, earned his B.S. at the University of Washington, attended Lewis and Clark Law School and received his M.B.A. from Union Graduate College. John loved to travel the world, and among all the places he visited, his heart belonged to Phuket, Thailand. He was a master deep water diving instructor who trained Navy Seals. He was passionate about music, especially the Grateful Dead, a group he followed religiously for two summers. John was a beautiful person. He had a big presence about him that was filled with vibrant energy and excitement. He found a lot of peace and joy in the Buddhist way. He was predeceased by his wife, Angie. Survivors include his loving and devoted mother, Judith Pace Antokol; loving father, Richard M. Antokol and his wife Joyce Empie; stepbrother and stepsisters, Scott Empie (Susan), Jennifer Grace (Kevin) and Anne Empie-Ryan; he is also survived by many dear friends. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 27, 2013 at 6 p.m. at the Ferrari Funeral Home (in Jones Funeral Home), 1503 Union St. (at McClellan Street), Schenectady. Calling hours will precede the service from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Following John's generous example, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the International Campaign for Tibet at savetibet.org. I've written before but am glad to remember John's beautiful spirit. His Mom Judi was a dear friend and we vacationed together up in Maine one summer when my son and John played together. We were all so happy. John was only 6 or 7 at the time and was a delightful child, as his mother was a delightful friend who is now with John. I know in my heart that they are at peace and off on new adventures and horizons. We are all only here for a blip in time and life continues undiminished on the other side. When remembered with love shared, my spirit is uplifted instead of feeling diminished.

Dear Judith & Richard, & your extended families...We learned of John's passing from Matthew and are so saddened by your deep loss. We hope that every good memory you each hold will lessen the pain in some way, and will enlarge your own spirits as you continue to bring love and good work into our world, which often cannot hold for too long a soul such as your John. May he find peace in a much larger world.

I will miss the laugh you had when you threw your head back and your eyes glistened. You laughed so similarly to me and it only made me laugh more! I will hold the memories of our 20's and the fun we had. It was a hoot to have a little brother and I know we got SUCH a kick out of telling everyone I was your "sister". You know that I loved you and I know you loved me. You are with God now and I am confident that he came to you in those final moments. Rest and find the peace you longed for...Anne
