John Leslie "Les" Austin

1951 - 2021

Austin, John Leslie "Les" NISKAYUNA John Leslie "Les" Austin, born on October 24, 1951, in Schenectady, died on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at the age of 70. Les was the son of the late John Bennett and Pauline S. Austin and graduated from Niskayuna High School in Niskayuna in 1969. After high school, he went on to earn his college degree from Brown University in Rhode Island. Les was adventurous and was able to travel throughout Europe, India and various parts of the United States to have different life experiences. He always enjoyed sports such as lacrosse, golf and had a great love of fishing. He played the piano, while his artistic side led him to creating mosaics out of tile, mostly of fish and animals. In his quiet time, he was an avid reader and especially liked English literature. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Douglas G. Austin. He is survived by his sister Sandra Austin Jensen and her husband Eric; sister-in-law, Jean S. Austin; nephew Jeff W. Austin and his wife Elissa; niece, Kathy M. Austin Kerns and her husband Dave; several great-nieces and nephews; cousins, Paula L. Hill, Dick Hill, and Eric Hill and several second cousins. A chapel service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in Memory Gardens Cemetery Chapel, 983 Watervliet Shaker Rd., Albany.
