John Chappell Obituary

Chappell, John
SCHENECTADY - John W. Chappell, 61, passed away at home, on Sunday, February 9, 2025. John was born in Delhi, N.Y., to the late Frank and Janice Dillingham Chappell. He was raised in Andes, N.Y., at his family's dairy farm. He graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh in 1985, receiving a bachelor's degree in Business Management. He was the co-owner of Northern Lights Landscape Contractors, LLC.
He is survived by his wife, Andrea Daly-Chappell; two daughters, Eliza and Sarah Chappell; two siblings, David (Be) Chappell and Miken Chappell; several nieces, nephews and extended family; and a large circle of loving friends.
John loved to spend time outdoors in nature, from his childhood days on the family farm, to his days spent at the camp on Galway Lake, to his final afternoons on the back deck of his Schenectady home. He spent much of his youth exploring the wilderness of the Adirondacks and adventuring in Alaska–taking in all of the beauty along the way.
He expressed his love to his family by cooking, always excited for a reason to prepare a big feast or a delicious birthday cake. His creativity bloomed in his career, where he was respected by his customers for designing beautiful outdoor spaces. John loved music and was always happy to discover a new rock or country artist, especially enjoying outdoor concerts and music festivals with good friends. He'll be remembered for his hearty laugh and warmth, and his ability to make friends with anyone he met. Please hug your loved ones and raise a glass to his memory.
Calling hours will be Sunday, February 16, 2025, from 2 until 5 p.m., at the Gleason Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to World Central Kitchen.

RIP brother. I have many fond memories of you. In the later years you were a big help to Mom and I. We didn't see you often but when we did, you brought smiles and were a big help in time of need. You left behind a wondeful legacy with Andrea, Eliza and Sarah. --Miken

Thinking of you, Andrea, Eliza and Sarah. We were so sad to hear of John's passing. The last time I saw him was the visit to your camp on the lake with Jon and Sharon. John cooked up a wonderful meal on the grill and we shared lots of laughs over family stories and memories! We will miss John's hearty laugh!! Our deepest sympathy to you all.
With love, Sally and Bill Kincaid

From lunch hour football (the NFL had nothing on ACS barn burners) and seemingly unending tuba practice ("Blow the Man Down" saved A LOT of mind numbing um-pahs), I have known no one more in the moment as you.

My deepest sympathies to Andrea and family. I have many fond memories of John. Best friend in high school. Many memories of skiing Bobcat, fishing the Pepacton, camping the Catskills, making maple syrup, and weekend road trips to Oneonta. The memory list is long. Rest well John, I'll miss the smile.

I worked with John as a provider for his landscaping business and can say without exaggeration that he was the kindest man I ever had the chance to do business with. I wish we had more time, more seasons to share, John. Already missing those moments leaning on the bed of your truck, sharing our thoughts, our stress, our little victories we were working on. Too soon, John, too soon, but so grateful for the opportunity to meet you.
