John Cheney Obituary
WATERVLIET - John L. Cheney, 87, of Craig St., passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Daughters of Sarah Community for Seniors. Born in Waterford, he was the son of the late John G. and Elsie J. Sanders Cheney. He was a 1955 graduate of Waterford High School.
Jack was an insurance executive for over 30 years, having been employed by the Equitable Life Insurance Co. as a manager in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. He had served for 6 years in the US Navy Reserves. He was a member of the Colonie Lodge of Elks and a former President of the Dart League there. Jack enjoyed boating, fishing time spent at Saratoga Race Track and Las Vegas.
Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Alice Valiquette Cheney; and his devoted children, Kimberly Schechter (Lee) of Manchester, N.J., Craig J. Cheney (Debbie) of Waterford, J. Kevin Cheney of Portland, Maine, Mark Cheney (Lisa) of Loudonville and the late Janice Marie Cheney. He is the proud grandfather of Joseph Cheney, David Cheney (Betty Ann Napoli), Steven Cheney, Megan Cheney, Nicolas Schechter (Tracy), Max Schechter and Lucien Cheney; and great-grandfather of Leona, Amelia, Wyatt and Chloe; and great-great-grandfather of Lyra.
Funeral services will be Monday at 9:30 a.m., from the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte.32), Waterford, and at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Church. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Waterford.
Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-5 p.m.

I have many fond memories of Jack. He used to make my sisters and I laugh with silly songs and jokes. He and Alice were always very loving and kind to our family. Rest Easy.
