TROY - John "Jack" Flanigan, 70 passed away on November 8, 2025 at Samaritan Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised in Troy, Jack "Flash" Flanigan got his start at St. Paul's, later graduating from Troy High School, going on to serve his country in the Army and the Air National Guard. There he became an expert at keeping the legendary ski-equipped LC-130s flying to Antarctica and Greenland year after year, retiring in 2014 after years of supporting the National Science Foundation.
Flash enjoyed time spent playing slow-pitched softball, golfing, and being the proud "pizza guy" at St. Peter's bingo nights. Sundays and holidays meant his kitchen was filled with the smell of his famous garbage bread, among other specialties, always ensuring there was enough for everyone to take home with them. He also enjoyed growing a vegetable garden, rooting for the Giants, and spending time with family.
He is predeceased by his parents, Matthew and Shirley Flanigan; brother, Robert; beloved wife, Patricia; father-in-law, Jim Sisk; and brother-in-law, Mark Milanese. He leaves behind his loving daughters, EJ Flanigan (Drew), Dannielle Flanigan-Noyes (Rick), Jaclyn Carley (Kevin), Melissa Phillips (James), and Samantha Stillman (Kip); precious grandchildren, Claire, Libby, Patrick, Mae, and Sadhbh; his sister, Sharon Milanese; brother, Matt Flanigan (Toni); along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Flash had a way of making everyone feel welcome. He was a man of few words, but a lot of heart, who welcomed all without judgement. He will be missed dearly, leaving his loved ones with many cherished memories.
