John J. Helstowski

Helstowski, John J. NISKAYUNA John J. Helstowski, 70, died on April 19, 2016, in Jakarta, Indonesia. John was born in Niskayuna, a son of the late Anthony and Mildred Miner Helstowski. He was a graduate of Linton High School and Empire State College. John was an Air Force Staff Sergeant veteran. He spent the last 24 years working overseas where he managed the global network operations divisions for Nokia and PT Excelcomindo, both based in Jakarta. Prior to that, he was employed by Verizon Business in Albany. In his early adult life, John was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time with his immediate and extended families. In Indonesia, he enjoyed playing golf for many years and had a love of photography. John sponsored dozens of individuals and was recognized as a great mentor. He was predeceased by his father, mother, and infant brother, Leon Helstowski. Survivors include his beloved wife of 48 years, Eiko Ogata Helstowski; loving children, Michelle Helstowski and Stephen (Kristina) Helstowski; cherished grandson, Jack Helstowski; loving siblings, Marilyn (James) Grant; Joseph (Janet) Helstowski; Thomas Helstowski; he is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends abroad. Services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Ferrari Funeral Home, 1503 Union St. (at McClellan St. in Jones Funeral Home). Interment with Military Honors to follow in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
