John Rourke Obituary

Rourke, John L. TROY, N.Y. John L. "Jack" Rourke, 71, of Troy, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at Memorial Hospital in Albany, following a lengthy illness. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late James and Phyllis Burrell Rourke, and was educated in Albany Public Schools. Following school, Jack went to work for Albany Public Market, transferring to Weis Markets and later to the Grand Union, until his retirement in 1995. Mr. Rourke was a sports enthusiast with a love for the NY Giants and the Mets, and was also an avid reader. Jack was most appreciative of his neighbors but, above all, he loved his wife, his daughter, his granddaughter and his grandson. His beloved wife, Mary Savoca Rourke, predeceased him in 1996. Mr. Rourke is survived by his daughter, Rosemary Church and her two children, Amanda and Brian Church, all of Wynantskill; his five sisters, Catherine Zwack of South Windsor, Conn., Joan Hoagle of East Greenbush, Patricia Zwack of Saratoga, Norma Dondero of Manchester, Conn.; and Elizabeth Wood of Tacoma, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brother, Allan Zwack. The funeral service will be held on Jack's 72nd birthday at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 16, 2007, at the Loudonville Community Church, 374 Loudon Road (Route 9, at the corner of Crumitie Road), Loudonville, N.Y., with the Rev. Stanley Key, pastor, officiating. The interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Friends are invited and may call at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, 565 Fourth Avenue (at the corner of 115th Street), Troy, NY 12182, on Sunday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Rourke may be made to the American Lung Association of NYS, Inc., 3 Winners Circle - Suite 300, Albany, NY 12205.
